Hello

Hello.

I have so much to write about. Last week was a very busy week as we prepared to leave to Ohio for the Sufficiency of Scripture Conference. It was an awesome conference and we have so much to think about and put into practice. I'll blog about the conference and post pictures when I get a chance.

At the conference pregnancy nausea descended upon me and has increased all this week together with much fatigue. Thus, my lack of posts.

This week was spent unpacking, washing,cleaning and resting. My daughter has been such a blessing to me, just as she is during each pregnancy when nausea overwhelms me. I'll talk more about this in a future post.

God is so good. I rejoice in His goodness in my life. The end of the year is near and I pray that my life may bring Him glory and that I grow to be more like Him each day.

See didn't I tell you I have much to write about...this post has scrambled thoughts. I'll have to blame it on the pregnancy hormones!

My Daughter's First Sewing Project

The Project Challenge:
Create a set of matching pillowcases for our front porch chairs.

Here we have two mismatched useless pillows.

Material on hand: an old full size bed skirt that once belonged to my son.

Learning sewing machine basics.
To begin with, I taught my daughter how to thread our sewing machine.

I also showed her how to thread and use the bobbin.

I went over the basics of setting tension levels and stitch length.

Cutting off the elastic of the bed skirt.

More trimming.

Practice sewing on scraps.

Pinning two pieces of the bed skirt together to make a wider piece.

All nicely stitched together and ready to sew into a pillow case.

The first pillowcase is ready. The pillow fit well after a few adjustments and the bottom opening was sewed together. Beautiful!

The next day: Repeating the same steps to complete the second pillowcase.

I blogged last week that I would be helping my daughter to start her first basic sewing project.

I had several goals in mind that I wanted accomplished with her first project. My goals were as follows:

1. A fun and relatively simple project. Nothing frustrating or too hard.
2. A project that would be a motivation to start other projects.
   
3. A project that would use materials I already had on hand.
   
4. A project that would be useful. No useless projects.
   

I'm proud to say that she did a wonderful job with her first project and all my project goals were fulfilled! It took her two days to complete the project working about one hour and a half a day. Our "new" pillows look great on our front porch chairs!

We will start a second sewing project on Friday. Can't wait!

Thanksgiving 2009

Food, there was lots and lots of delicious food. Yummy!

We even had Tabouli, hummus and pita chips! I also had pickled okra for the first time. I loved it! Pickled okra a southern treat you won't find on the west coast!

I had the intention of taking many pictures, but I was so busy feasting that I forgot all about taking pictures!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. This Thanksgiving we found ourselves far from our immediate family. We were blessed, however, to spend the holiday with friends from church. We were the guests of the Orr family who opened up their home to us, several other families and several single young men. All of the families present were also far from their immediate families.

We had a wonderful time together, feasting and in fellowship. After eating together, we gathered in the living room and sang hymns, gave thanks and prayed. Some of our friends who recently moved to the area family sang a worship song in Spanish and then my husband and I followed with a Spanish worship song of our own. During the time of Thanksgiving my husband also announced our glad tidings of a new baby on the way. We were congratulated and prayed over for a healthy pregnancy and for the Lord to allow us to hold this baby in our arms.
